CLUB HISTORY
In early 1960 a gentleman by the name of Dan Martin who was the proud owner of a German Short Haired Pointer called " Speckells Of Hollybrook" inserted an advertisement in the "Dogs" column of the Irish Independent Newspaper requesting that anyone who owned a GSP to contact him with a view to setting up a club.
Several people contacted Dan & a meeting was held in a Dublin city hotel where the club was subsequently formed, those founder members were R.C. O'Farrell. P.J. Keenan, Mrs Duncan-Parker, Mr & Mrs Paddy Mooney & of course Mr Dan Martin. Mr E.J.Daly joined at a later date & became club Treasurer & Secretary for many years, Dan Martin held the position of Chairman & several members including Dan Martin were also long standing members of the South County Game Association.
It's thanks to the dedication of these people the club exists today, Fifty years on the GSP Club of Ireland also encompasses GLP, GWP, Weimaraner, Hungarian Viszla, Italian Spinone, Bracco Italiano, Large Munsterlander & Brittany Spaniels.
The GSP Club is affiliated to the Irish Kennel Club & has two representatives on the An Ard Comhairle plus two members on the Field Trial Committee.
